Sistan and Baluchistan province is in the south east of Iran on border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. To the south of the province is the Indian ocean and the Gulf of Oman.

This province is about the size of Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia combined. So there’s a fair amount of driving from the north to the south of this province. This province has 1,100 km a land border with Pakistan and Afghanistan and it has a coastal stretch of 300 km along the Indian Ocean’s Gulf of Oman. The people who live here are the Baluchi tribes who are Suni Muslims and the Sistani tribes are Shi’a Muslims, they both speak Persian.

The Sistan and Baluchistan province is really amazing with huge contrasts between the deserts, snow capped mountains, and strange rock formations, an active 4,000 m volcano, Martian scenery and cliff enclosed fishing villages along the coast, tropical rivers with the rare Mugger crocodile. It’s Iran’s least known destination yet one of the most beautiful parts of our country. An example of one of the places you shall visit is the famous UNESCO listed (in 2015) Shahr-I Sokhta or “Burnt city” founded around 3200 BC situated at the junction of Bronze Age trade routes crossing the Iranian plateau. Another region we are going to visit on this trip is Dasht-e Lut desert. One of Iran’s main highlights, in terms of nature. Since Iranian deserts were on the Silk Road, there are many historical monuments and sites left from that period that are worth visiting. There are many different types of flora and fauna living in this hot region and many Caravanserais that still accommodate travellers like you. The Lut desert was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. Another main highlight of this journey is exploring the coast of the Gulf of Oman as well as visiting several small towns and fishing villages.

With this trip you will discover one of the least visited regions of Iran, which is still very much unknown to both visitors and Iranians. It’s a 12-day exploration of the Sistan and Baluchistan province (the 2nd largest of Iran. For those who want to complete this adventure, there’s an option of a week further west on the Persian Gulf island of Qeshm.

You will arrive in Tehran and continue with a morning domestic flight to Kerman (1.5 hour-1000 km) in the center of the county. Here you will start by visiting one of the driest and hottest (70.8°) places in the world, the desert of Dasht-e Lut and finish the trip on the Gulf of Oman on the Indian Ocean in the city of Chabahar in southeastern corner of Iran

We shall head for our first overnight location with on the way a visit to the UNESCO listed gardens of Shazdeh near Mahan.

On the 2nd day with 4X4n we head into the one of the driest and hottest (70.8°) places in the world, the desert of Dasht-e Lut and afterward you will finish in the ocean (Oman Sea), which is a city called Chabahar in southeastern corner of Iran in. Chabahar is the only seaport in Iran which has access to Indian Ocean. After a couple of days exploring in the coast, you will back to the capital with another long domestic flight takes 2 hours and 15 minutes (1800 Kilometers).

From the desert to the ocean you will experience a combination of history, civilization, culture, history of religions, a variety of local foods, different local traditions, a diversity of architecture, mythology, visiting local tribes as well as seeing the amazing landscape of mountains and desert both inland as well as the coast of Gulf of Oman. As the length of this overland trip is long (2000 km) in 13 days you will encounter different climates and temperatures from the desert to the ocean. In some regions you will even experience a tropical climate. One of the highlights of your adventure will be when the desert sands meet the ocean. This region has a number of UNSECO listed sites, and you shall visit three; Shahr-e Sukhte (known as the “burnt city), Dashte Lut desert and Shazdeh Gardens.

For those who want to complete the route its possible to continue west with one week extension by travelling from Chabahar along the ocean road all the way to Bandar Abbas port, the capital of Hormozgan province. In the optional week you will have a chance to see different tribes of the locals who live in Minab and Bandar Abas as well as exploring Qeshm, Hormoz and Hengam Islands in Persian Gulf. At the end fly back to Tehran from Qeshm island.
We recommend to take your binocular which is so useful in most part of the trip.
