Ascending Mt. Kolon Bastak 4156 m

Sleeping one night in 2700 m altitude for acclimatization

Most travelers wishing to climb Mt. Damavand, Alam Kuh or Sabalan choose Tochal peak for acclimatization however the route to Tochal can be crowded by weekend climbers or regular people due to its proximity to the capital city while the route chosen in this itinerary is more interesting, isolated and preferred by professionals for trekking or acclimatization.
One hour driving outside Tehran will take you to some mountains over 4000m enabling you to have a good acclimatization program for Damavand or other peaks around. Also, this short challenging trekking tour is perfect for those who wish to escape the crowded and polluted Tehran.
You will stay in a wooden chalet at a village on 2700m altitude having a memorable time. This altitude will prepare you physically and mentally for tomorrow’s climbing.
The day after we will drive up to 3300m by car and from there we will start ascending to the peak. On the trekking route many of Central Alborz Mountains are visible. We will have a good view of Dizin, Shemshak and Darband Sar ski resorts.
We will be on the top around noon time staying around 1 hour at the peak. Then we will descend to starting point and drive back to the chalet for some rest before driving back to Tehran in the late afternoon.
Those travelers planning to ascend Damavand Mountain can continue their trip after finishing this tour.

Day 1: Tehran to Shemshak

Depart at 5.00 p.m. driving towards the northern Tehran. We drive around one hour on the Shemshak & Dizin ski resort road. The altitude on this road is around 1000m but the altitude of the village is 2700m, this will prepare you for mountaineering program. On arrival to the village we will have some time to enjoy the environment of the village. Dinner will be served there and tea/coffee is available at any time. Overnight stay in the local homestay. Day 2: Summit day - Ascending Mt. Koloon Bastak (4125 m)

7.00 a.m. wake up for breakfast and start at 8.00 a.m. From the village (2700m) we will drive to the starting point of trek (3400m). From there we start trekking towards the summit. It takes approximately 5 hours to reach to the top. After one hour rest we will come back to the starting point and drive back to the village. After changing clothes and/or taking shower, drinking coffee/tea we will drive back to Tehran in the late afternoon. (B, L)
