Most travelers travelling to Iran miss out on the opportunities of Iranian deserts. Some of them just touch the desert and have no idea about the attractions of this quintessential place. Trekking in the Dasht-e Kavir would be a great opportunity for hikers as this area is fabulous and untouched without many tourists. On this trip which is perfect for Iran first visitors, we provide a memorable journey, an adventurous 5 days trek into the heart of the desert alongside of your cultural-historical exploration which covers Iran’s quintessential main well known attractions.

Sven Anders Hedin was a Swedish geographer, topographer, explorer, photographer and travel writer who travelled by paddle steamer in 1886. This itinerary has been designed taking into account the travels of Sven Hedin in Iran. Keeping his book (Through Persia, Mesopotamia and the Caucasus) in mind guided us through the routes he had taken while travelling in the desert. For those who are interested, we advise reading his book before starting the journey. For more information please check SVEN HEDIN link.

Including the majority of attractions and interesting places in one tour for two weeks is practically impossible. Iran offers too many attractions that would take much longer than 2 weeks. This task becomes harder if you include a sporting activity as well. This tour is an intensive multipurpose cultural-adventure journey suitable for first time visitors. It covers three different regions for hiking in Iran. Two mountain regions in the west of Iran and one mountain region in the north. Dena and Zardkuh mountain chains are both part of the Zagros range located in western Iran. Lar National Park is situated in the foothills of Mt Damavand which is part of the central Alborz mountain range. Mt Damavand is the highest mountain in Western Asia at height of 5610 m. The beauty, wildlife, birds, climate, terrain, trees, plains, flora and fauna of each mountains is different and it therefore makes this journey special. Dena also is a National Park and designated UNESCO biosphere reserve.

A mule trek with nomads is one of the main highlight of this journey, travelling through their territory and seeing their way of life in a region seldom visited by any other foreign travelers. You will share meals with them and socialize with their families.
The classic cultural/historical part of the trip covers the most important and world renowned UNESCO heritage sites. The season for this trip is in Mid-spring till mid-autumn and the journey starts from Shiraz and ends in Tehran. Booking in advance for this trip is mandatory as we have to get permits for two national parks and organize mule trekking which is time consuming. If you have more time over two weeks and would like to experience something more than this, please contact us.
