This new tour, that we in Adventure Iran have recently put together, offers a great opportunity for first-time visitors to Iran to get acquainted with the country, its history and geography. The programme includes a visit to Iran’s main attractions in historical cities as well as a few days of hiking in the mountains and in the desert.
The best and most pleasant season to do the tour is spring and autumn, when the weather is mild and gently cool. The degree of difficulty is moderate and the programme that we have created is suitable for novice fit travelers. The tour starts in southern Iran, in Shiraz, the city of poets and Persian gardens, and ends in the north at the foothills of Alborz Mountains, in Tehran, the bustling and spectacular capital of Iran.
The cultural/historical part of the tour takes you via Iran’s main highlights, namely the cities of Shiraz, Yazd, Esfahan, Kashan, Abyaneh and Tehran, as well as the country’s main UNESCO World Heritage Sites en route. You will also have an opportunity to learn about the history of the cities themselves on a city tour with a local guide.
The hiking part of the tour covers two different regions in central Iran – Dena Mountain Range in the Zagros Mountains and the Dasht-e Kavir Desert. The planned two-day hike off the beaten track goes through the UNESCO-listed Dena Biosphere Reserve and includes a hike through mountain villages and overnight stay within the National Park itself. In the desert, we will do off-road driving and hike to the Salt Lake and sand dunes. Here, we will overnight in a beautiful renovated caravanserai in the middle of the desert and the following day continue on towards the historical village of Abyaneh.
As the tour spans across different weather and climate conditions, be prepared for the temperatures in the mountains and the desert to differ significantly. If doing the same trip in the summer, we skip the desert and spend more time hiking in the mountains.
